Never enough time

I had these glorious hopes of actually spitting out romantic words about the Seattle trip. I find myself without the time. But Seattle rocked. I almost cried when I saw Rainier again for the first time in 3 years. My soul lives in those mountains. Camping in the rain at my secret favorite campsite was fabulous. As the sun set behind the mountains beyond the lake, the pinks were reflected on the rainbow in the east turning it electric fuschia. I was able to eat real salmon and halibut, all in all I was able to eat real food. It is no secret that I do not like the Austin food selection. Seattle is more my style. Ecclectic and LOTS of fish.

Oh no?

What is wrong with Austin's food selection? You don't dig the tex-mex?
I find if I cook myself, I can pretty much have anything I want. The grocery stores here are definitely MUCH better than Kentucky. But I won't argue that fresh fish is probably better in Seattle than in central Texas.

Re: Oh no?

I just don't find much diversity here, not to mention there are some fabulous chefs in Seattle. You can only take so much tex-mex and barbeque. Plus I have periods where I can't eat meat so that becomes hard here. (I know you will ask so the answer is, after I learned Anatomy and Physiology with the sort of spiritual bent of massage school I had trouble eating meat without seeing the animal frolicking in the fields so I would get grossed out.) I have to do the same as far as cooking and yes I would agree that the groceries are decent here although I was spoiled because they are even better in Seattle. I'm from IN and I'm guessing the feel in KY is about the same.

Re: Oh no?

Ok, so I haven't found a really good high end Indian place yet, or a good Greek place, but as far as "take-out" type stuff, I'm loving the number of phoa and thai and sushi places I got to choose from (I eat the 7 pepper ahi from Zen at least once a week for lunch, because it is right around the corner from my office).
Hmmm, I used to live and work right near Union City Ohio/Indiana, right on the border. If your part of Indiana was like that, there was probably a whole lot more tofu and soy options in your grocery than in Kentucky groceries (I think it's a law because y'all grow so many of the damnable soy beans). In Kentucky the four basic food groups are bacon, potatoes, milk gravy and beans.

Re: Oh no?

I can't eat bacon anymore unless I shut my brain down. I found out that pigs have the intelligence of a toddler. I'm very visual and don't want to eat toddlers. Bacon cheeseburger, hold the toddler please.
