The Futrelle sisters Frankie, Honey Raye and Twink, are throwing a wedding. Frankie has almost made herself sick with elaborate preparations for her daughter Tina Jo's antebellum wedding, and the rumor mill in their small town of Fayro, Texas, is working overtime. No surprise there, the Futrelle sisters have never been strangers to gossip. In spite of her own marital problems, Frankie has held steadfastly to the hope that she can pull off one "final Futrelle occasion" with elegance and style with the help of a cantankerous wedding coordinator. But on the day of the nuptials, Frankie's hope begins to dim. It is lost completely when word reaches the church that Tina Jo and her fiance have fled Fayro. The sisters ultimately pull together to find ways to keep the unsuspecting guests in the pews while a highway patrolman races off to track down the runaway bride and groom.

We are the dead How do we know we are on this side of the wall that it isn't the reflections who have come to grieve us
We are the dead milling about in the gray waiting for the ones who look like us to trace the crevasses of our names
We are the dead shiny faced and frowning crying not to feel our own tracing fingertips pressed against themselves

The Earth, a klunky, chunky waitress dancing the principal in the nutcracker fluttering skirt as she moves through the sun, hiding then showing we can't find our footing here on earth she keeps changing the environment on us making us wobble on the table like a salt shaker at the edge and big daddy pounding his fists because no one's brought his pancakes, exclamation mark
the waitress is too busy pirouetting with the fry cook in the mop closet

When you tout yourself as "gun-totin" and exploit your grandkids for your political image... I have a hard time believing you give a rat's ass about their education.
Darren...did you know Sarah Vowell is coming to town Nov. 10, I think at the State Theater?

4:04 pm - Where have all the leaders gone?
|
Can't there be just ONE candidate that actually addresses the REASON that immigrants come here from Mexico?
There is seriously something wrong with our college education system (let alone the primary and secondary) when not one of the gubernatorial candidates even thinks about WHY the issue exists.
Perry - Texas A & M Friedman - University of Texas at Austin (Plan II EVEN!) Strayhorn - University of Texas at Austin (Honors EVEN!) Bell - University of Texas at Austin
P.S. I can tell you a few reasons Why the Hell NOT, despite his re-statement about the death penalty.
SM: So does this idea of the honorable cowboy have anything to do with why you threw your support behind President Bush in this last election? You did, didn’t you?
KF: Yes. I did in this last election, but I didn’t vote for him the first time.
SM: Who did you vote for in 2000?
KF: I voted for Gore then. I was conflicted. . .but I was not for Bush that time. Since then, though, we’ve become friends. And that’s what’s changed things.
SM: So it’s your friendship with him that’s changed your mind about having him as president more than his specific political positions?
KF: Well, actually, I agree with most of his political positions overseas, his foreign policy. On domestic issues, I’m more in line with the Democrats. I basically think he played a poor hand well after September 11. What he’s been doing in the Near East and in the Middle East, he’s handling that well, I think.

I miss setting up seismographs in the backwoods of Washington in the rain while listening to crowing peacocks.
And...
Watching the dolphins outside the sonoluminescence lab.
I sold all my science books.

11:22 am - I have been unhappy the last few months
|
|
And I think I'm just now recognizing it and realizing what it is. I'm burnt out on all the political cynicism. On all the injustice. I never have time to write any more. I don't remember the last time I touched my novel. It's all rallies and fundraising and news. I feel like I'm losing my faith in humanity. Even though in every day interactions you can see how the good outweighs the bad but then you look at the paper and you drive by the Wal-Fart. And I think my brain might explode from all the various conflicts I'm supposed to keep track of. And all I really want to do is sit in the sun and read and write and drink Turbos, but who is going to pay for the Turbos especially since they jacked up the price and the poor baristas are feeling the brunt because I give them half the tip I did before. I miss the mountains, BADLY. Okay, I don't have this 5 minutes to spare. Back to the grind.

|
|
Why is the actual contract of marriage better or worse than just living together as a committed couple? Meaning, the comparison between being married without the paper and being married with the paper.
